Local Report Server - 'rsaccessdenied'
I just installed SQL 2008 Dev on Vista Ultimate with a local ReportServer. I am logged under the same local admin account I used to install. When I run IE as Administrator, and go to http://localhost/ReportServer, I am prompted for a login although I think it should be using Windows Authentication. When I put in my login credentials (for my account with local admin rights), I get the following error - The permissions granted to user 'MachineName\Username' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied). When I try to open http://localhost/reports, I get a blank page with only the SQL Reporting Services header. I have seen IIS config solutions for this, but apparently IIS is not required anymore and I'm not running it. I have also seen posts with non-admin users having this issue, but that isn't the case here. I also discovered the need to run IE as administator in Vista or adding the URL's to the trusted sites due to the elevated permissions requirement. I've done both and that doesn't seem to help. Any other ideas? I thought this would be a 5 minute problem and it probably should be, but it's turned into hours. Thanks

I had this same problem on two different machines in the last month or so.On the home page http://localhost/reports, go to the site settings and make sure you have rights to content manager. Hope this helps. Ryan Mcbee

Right Click on IE , Run IE as Run as Administrator. Then you can see the report manager.Add your Login name like pcname/username as Content manager ,add the same to site settings on report Manager screen. Also Add Nt Authority/Network Service as Content manger , add the same to site settings. Then Go to tools options setting of IE, Under security tab Go to Trusted site.Add Htt://Locahost/report to that. Then uncheck the HTTPS option. Then you will be able to access Report Server. ~~ Mark it as Answer if you find it correct~~

Thanks for both responses, however, I can't seem to access Report Manager either. I don't get a permissions error like Report Server, butI get a blank web page with nothing buta header at the top saying 'SQl Server Reporting Services' with links to Home, Subscriptions, and Help. Help is the only link here that doesn't bring up a blank web page. I have'http://localhost' as a trusted site and I have been using the right click option to run IE as administrator.

Thanks again for the reply. I'm not aware of any service packs yet for SQL 2008. I'm on Visual Studio .NET 2008 SP1 and don't see any relevantVista updates I haven't installed. Also, I'm not seeing the 'apply default' option you mentioned. In 'Reporting Services Configuration Manager', I do see that you can change the virtual directories for Report Manager URL and Web Service URL, but I am using the defaults.

I am not able to click through the links to the virtual directories. If I click on the ReportServer virtual directory link, it opens a browser with a login prompt and then gives me the old 'rsaccessdenied' error. If I click through the link for the ReportManager virtual directory, I get the blank page with just the header. I've reviewed the instructions again for configuration under Vista, but I still haven't been able to determine were I've gone wrong yet.

Thanks for the additional replies. I had to take a couple of days off this issue to get some other work done. Despite some very good suggestions here and thinking "this has to be it" on more than one occasion, I still get the same old error when trying to get into the ReportServer URL and a blank page with header at the ReportManager URL. The scary thing is how manydifferent ways there seem to be to arrive in the same pickle.

Ok. I finally got past this issue. I sort of just stumbled onto a resolution and I'm not really sure why it works, but it does. In the Options dialog in IE, I went to the 'Local intranet' intranet option on the Security Tab and clicked the 'Sites' button. There I unchecked 'Automatically detect intranet network' and I checked 'Include all local (intranet) sites not listed in other zones'. I previously tried adding localhost to the 'Trusted Sites' due to a recommendation I read somewhere else, but that didn't work for me. However, 'Include all local (intranet) sites not listed in other zones' did. Thanks to all those who offered suggestions.

I'm a couple of years late on this but I've been scouring the air-waves for quite some time on this very problem... Too many other posts about TFS, SSRS 2005, etc. so it took me until now to finally find this. THANK YOU! Such a random setting and I'd have never found it! You saved me on this one!Rob Compton
