Load Balancer - Always pointing to one front end server

Hi All,

We have a SharePoint 2013 farm with 2 App servers and 2 Front End servers (connected with F5 Load balancing).

I have created a WebApp with the NLB name, say http://sp-wfe-nlb:80.

When i stop the 80 APP pool in IIS of WFE 01, my site is working (Hope this is from WFE 02)

But if i stop the WFE 02 and on the WFE 01 , my sharepoint site is not opening. i am getting "501 service unavailable"

Please let me know, how to check this. I also want to now from a user machine how it can be tested. that is my site is opening from WFE 01 or WFE 02  how to test this?

Note : We are using F5 Load balance, and client confirmed twice that they dont have any configuration issue from their side

Thanks in a

If you stop both WFE02 and WFE01 then you don't have a WFE server to serve the website, so you will get a 501 error.  You need at least one web front end server to browse your website.  You should be able to stop either WFE01 or WFE02, and have the website operate, but not both.

You can test on which server a user is by enabling developer dashboard, or check the IIS logs on both boxes.
