List with autofill columns
Hello everybody, I have encountered some difficulties and I hope that you will be able to help me. Here is what I have: List Names- containing a column Code and a column Name(so each name has a corresponding code). I need to create a form- and i have decided to have a list for this(do you have any other suggestions?).My new list will contain the following columns: Code, Names, Item. Whenever a user fills in a Code I need it to automatically fill in the Name too. Do you have any ideas on how can this be done? Thank you very much

Hi Ziara, You can do this with infopath forms. You can proceed with the steps defined below: 1. First of all enable enterprise features at site collection level and then at site level. 2. design an infopath form and use it as a template to the document library. 3. For the fields defined in the forms map them to the list columns using data connections. 4. Now whenever someone will submit a new form the data will be copied down to the site columns. You can use this data then wherever you want. I hope this will help you out. Thanks, Rahul Rashu

You can also try using jQuery and SharePoint Designer, refer to the following posts http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointcustomization/thread/a7af9a67-4a42-4836-9448-70ae83f5c80a/ http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointcustomization/thread/028ff72d-e303-4274-a918-635589114a9b/ --Cheers

I cannot use InfoPath, as not all the users have it, but thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Ziara, You can use Infopath. There is no need to have it for all users. You can design the form after that you can mark it as browser enabled, after that no matter someone has it or not he will be able to use it without any issues. I hope this will help. let me know if you still have any more query on this. Thanks, Rahul Rashu

Well I tried using InfoPath and this is what I got: This form template is browser-compatible, but it cannot be browser -enabled on the selected site.
