Links to SharePoint Docs within Word 2010 fail in Chrome

We have several Word documents that contain links to SharePoint docs. We use Word 2010 and O365/SharePoint 2013.
If a user's default browser is Chrome, clicking on the links within the Word doc does not take the user to the doc in SharePoint. It takes them to our home page.
If the user copies and paste the link in Chrome directly, the SharePoint doc open fine in Word Online. The issue is only when clicking on a SP link within a Word document.

If a user's default browser is IE, clicking on the links within the Word doc does take the user to the doc in sharepoint.

Is this a known Chrome issue? Is there a fix? We are using the latest Chrome.

Hi,

Per my test, when we type the URL of the documents in browser or click hyperlinks of the documents, the browser will download the file instead of opening it in the browser.

I recommend modifying the hyperlink of the documents by appending ?web=1.

For example, if the hyperlink of the document is https://XXX.sharepoint.com/site/library/test.docx, then we can modify it to be https://XXX.sharepoint.com/site/library/test.docx?web=1.

After that, when we click the hyperlinks of the documents, it will open in the browser with Office Web Apps.

Best regards,

Victoria

The hyperlinks are not in the format you describe. They are in the following format:https://XXX.sharepoint.com/site/_layouts/15/WopiFrame.aspx?sourcedoc=%7B2705715F-7A61-49AC-83CB-DF997BE2E5BF%7D&file=TheFileName.doc&action=default

Is the format we are using incorrect? This link is obtained by clicking the ... next to a document.

Hi,

Your format is also correct. And I tested the same format in my environment, and the document can be opened by clicking the hyperlink in Chrome.

I recommend to use fiddler to track the request when clicking the hyperlink in chrome to see how the request works and what the response returns.

Best regards,

Victoria
