Links are opening in read only mode

Hey SharePoint Fam,

I have a weird issue going on that I cannot seem to figure out and wanted to see what I may be doing wrong.  I have several files loaded within a document library.  I put direct links to specific files on the left quick launch bar, when users and myself click on these link and try to save changes we get a message saying "The file is read-only.  To save a copy, click ok and then give the workbook a new name".  If I go directly to the document library and open the file it opens from the the server 100% and allows me to easily save my changes and update the file loaded in sharepoint.  Is there a different link or IE setting that needs changed?

Intranet Zone is Local Intranet

Web Application File Handling is set to Strict

Thanks in advance
