Linkning Sharepoint list with MS Access
This feature is usefull for us. We want to use this for site admin group to maintain our database. I have few questions: Do I need to setup the list in some specific manner to have proper list integration with Access? Do I need to sign of the list or is it ok if multiple users edit list with MS Acccess at the same time? What do I need to do to allow only certain user groups to have this edit feature in Access enabled? Any links to general help articles and videos are welcome. Thank you, Petr

Ask one question per thread otherwise we can't find the right forum for your questions. I've removed the second question which is clearly a workflow question and goes to the workflow forum. I'm also unclear as to what you mean by "This feature is useful for us" - which feature ? You don't mention any features in your post. ModeratorSP 2010 "FAQ" (mainly useful links): http://wssv4faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx WSS3/MOSS FAQ (FAQ and Links) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx Both also have links to extensive book lists and to (free) on-line chapters

OK, point taken. I have created a different thread in the Workflows section I'm also unclear as to what you mean by "This feature is useful for us" - which feature ? You don't mention any features in your pos I mean that we can edit in Access directly from SharePoint.

SharePoint would be your data source. Access would link to a SharePoint List. Do I need to setup the list in some specific manner to have proper list integration with Access? No, try creating a test List and link to it directly from Access or open the List with Access. To open the List with Access: In the List, click on Actions, Open with Access, then pick Link to data... Do I need to sign of the list or is it ok if multiple users edit list with MS Access at the same time? Grant Contribute or above permission to the users you want editing the List. What do I need to do to allow only certain user groups to have this edit feature in Access enabled? Permissions are controlled in SharePoint. Not exactly sure what you mean by edit feature in Access. http://www.sharepointed.com

You can use Java or even SharePoint Designer to hide the columns in the web layer. But I dont see how thats going to stop someone from viewing the column from Access. Test it, and let us know what you find.http://www.sharepointed.com

Hi, and thanks for response. I need to do some tests. "What do I need to do to allow only certain user groups to have this edit feature in Access enabled?" - I mean having the ability to open list from Access in Sharepoint for contributor group. I am limiting user acces per column (some Javascript code) for this Sharepoint list (users are contributor group), and have a worry people will be able to edit in MS Access columns which they dont have the authorisation to edit in SharePoint
