Linked Reports to DrillThrough Reports
We have 2 report folders, 1 called "System" and 1 called "UserReports". Within the System Folder are the actual reports (uploaded .RDL files). In the "User Reports" folder are linked reports that link to the actual reports located in the System folder. There is 1 linked report for all actual reports. For example :- System\TopLevelReport , System\DrillToReport , UserReports\TopLevel , UserReports\DrillToReport I have a top level report, that drills to the DrillToReport. I can run all these reports correctly when I run them from the System folder, but when a user runs them, they only have access to the "UserReports" folder. They can run the top level linked report without error, but when they try and drillthrough, it is trying to open the "System" folder and run the actual drill report from there. Hence they recieve an rsAccessDenied error. The permissions granted to user 'NNNNN\NNNNNN' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) Is it possible to use the Linked Reports and DrillThrough actions ? OR change the security model we are using in SSRS ? We use several folders and put linked reports in these folders, and we only have 1 actual reports folder (System). This way we can grant certain users a single folder or multitple folders, then they are able to run a subset of the total number of reports deployed to the server.Phil Mac

I was trying similiar scenario and I found that the user must have at least Browser permissions for the target report in the target folder (however the folder must not). Note that when users open UserReports\TopLevel, the System\TopLevelReport is actually shown (as UserReports\TopLevel links to System\TopLevelReport), hence when users drill-trough, they'll be redirected to the System\DrillToReport. So you would need to grant the Browser permission for the System\DrillTo report to the user (you can still leave no permission to the System folder). There also another thing which I find a bit disturbing: when I export such top level report (UserReports\TopLevel) to excel and want to drill-trough from there, I'm redirected to (UserReports\DrillToReport) - one might find this ok, but it is different behavior from the "on-line" processing and it forces administrator to keep these two ways in mind... Or am I missing something?
