Linked Databases and Report Builder 3
I have a my SQL 2008 R2 Report Server in one domain and need to access the tables in from a SQL 2008 database in another domain. I created a linked database object and it works fine; I can run quries off of it and it works fine. What I need to do is create a connection to the linked databases tables to use as a data source in Report Builder 3. When I connect as the user that is the proxy between my R2 server and the remote server in SQL Server Management Studio everything works fine; when I connect with Report Builder 3 I cannot see the remote databases.

Hi oasisaplus, According to your description, you would like to use the linked database as a data source in Report builder 3.0, right? I am afraid the linked data base is not supported in report builder 3.0. I suggest you connect to the remote database directly. More information about how to connect to remote server in report builder 3.0, please refer to the following link, Data Connections, Data Sources, and Connection Strings in Report Builder 3.0: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd220525.aspx Please let me know if my understanding is wrong. Thanks, Eileen

Thank you for your reply.... I found the answer by a coworker. I created the connection to the database like I normally would then I open the data set and replace it with a query that I built in SQL Management Studio that references the linked database with its alias.
