Link in .aspx page opens in Word instead of the browser
We have SharePoint 2007 and Office 2007.
I have an aspx page that contains a link to a Word document in a SP document library. When I click on the link, I expect the Word document to open in the browser but instead it opens in Word.
I have a workstation that has Office 2003 and the document opens in the browser. But on the Office 2007 workstation, it opens in a new Word window. In both cases were are using IE7,
Is there something I can do in SP to force a Word document to open in a browser?

In the document library where you have your world document, go to -> seetings ->document library settings -> Advanced settings -> (Under browser-enabled documents) select Display as a web page.
Hope it solves your issue!

Alas, I have tried navigating as document library settings -> Advanced settings -> (Under browser-enabled documents) select Display as a web page.and it still opens in the client application.
Is there something that needs to be turned on via Central Administration to enable this feature?

If you want open your document inside Browser, you can try the following settings:
The setting that controls this behavior is located in Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer ) on the end machine.
Open Windows Explore r.
Select Tools -> Folder Options... from the menu.
Go to the File Type s tab.
In the Registered file types list , select the file you want to change the setting for (e.g. DOCX ).
Click the Advanced button to open the Edit File Type dialog.
There is a checkbox, Browse in same window, where you can specify whether the selected file type should be opened within the browser or launched in its client application when clicked on a document link in a web page. Tick the Browse in same window check box (or tick the Open Web documents in place check box).
Click OK

So I gather that there is no SharePoint-only way to force an Office document into a browser in SP2007. I understand that SP2010 displays Office documents in the browser by default.
Are both of these statements correct?
