Limiting who can edit List items

Hello all-

I've got a list in SP2010, in which I'd like for folks to be able to edit entries they've made, but not edit entries anyone else has made (but I want everyone to be able to see all entries).

I've gone to the list settings, advanced settings, and under "item-level permissions" I've selected 'Create items and edit items that were created by the user'.  However, when I tested this, someone else (not an admin) was able to edit a list item that I'd entered.

Did I do this wrong?  Is there some other way that allows for only the creating user to edit the list item?</label>

Hello Casey_M,

The user you tested might not be an admin but he still could have a permission that could allow him to edit items. For example if he has Full Control permission level for the site he can edit items.

You can check user permissions from Site Actions>>Site Permission>>Check Permission
