Limiting collection keeps adding itself to the membership rules

All our system collections are manually setup due to specific systems having to have specific mainteance windows.  Eventually this will change to query base collections, but for now we need to add them manually.  When I select a group of servers and add them to a collection I end up getting all the servers due to the limiting collection (all servers) adding itself into the membership group on its own.  What am I doing wrong that is causing this?

Thanks,

Gary

Update:

Further testing:  It will add the colletion to the memvership rule from where I select servers to add to these additional collections.  For example, I created a collection to query all servers that are not in my pathing colletions in case new servers get added.  If I add from here to one of the patching collection, this colletion automatically gets added.

How is each collection set up? What query rule is being used? How does the limiting collection look like (incl rules)? How exactly are you adding them? Which collection(s) is a server you are adding member of before you add it?

-Each server patching collection is setup empty with no queries.  All servers are added manually.  I have no variable to query for a group that belongs to "Production Patching Tuesday 4 AM - 8 AM"

-Limiting Collection is the only rule based one to only list all the servers.

-If I am moving a server from any collection to my patching collections that collection auto adds to the membership group.

-I am adding servers by selecting the ones I want, click "add selected items to", click "add selected items to existing device collection" and then choose the collection.  If I use "add resources' option, this issue does not occur.

Thanks

Hi,

What's the Membership rules of the collection after you added selected items to existing device collection?

Is there any information in AdminUI.log and Smsprov.log?

There are no rules.  The servers are selected individually from an all systems collection and added manually to that collection.  What ever collection you are selecting from gets auto added to the rule as an include atuomatically.  Nto sure if that is by design.  If you just use the 'add resource option' the issue does not occur.

If you are not using the add resource option, what are you using to add them to the collection? The Add Selected Items to an Existing Collection option? Please describe click-by-click what you are doing?

The only way I can reproduce this is if I click on the node for All Systems itself under the Devices node and choose Add Select Items or if I choose Add Selected Items from the ribbon bar. In either case, this is doing exactly that, adding the *collection* to the existing collection. If you just want to add specific systems, make sure you right-click in the details pane. Notice the tab in the ribbon bar says "Collection" meaning it will operate on the collection selected, not the resources shown in the details pane. As mentioned, make sure you right-click in the details pane on the resources you have selected.
