Limited Acess Permisison in Sharepoint
Hi, I my understanding with Limited Acess Permission is that if in a document library if we assign user (which is not present at site level) then sharepoint automatically adds it in site level with Limited Access. Now my confussion is, if we add a User in Subsite (Child Site) with some permission then sharepoint automatically adds it at Top Level Site (Parent Site) with Limited Access ? I check this by adding user in Document Library with Full Control then sharepoint automatically adds it Site Level with Full control, but when I login with that user Sharepoint gives Access Denied error. I am unable to understand why it is happening as Sharepoint itself says "Limited Access - Can view specific lists, document libraries, list items, folders, or documents when given permissions." As from above, user whould have read permission at Site Level with Limited Access, since user has Full Control at Document Library. What if I remove Limited Access permissioned user from the Site will it effect something ?? I would be thankful if anybody could please help me on this. Thanks, Kamal nag

Kamal, The 'Limited Access' permission indicates user access of a child object, but not necessarily ANY access to the parent itself (not even read). So if the user tries to navigate to the landing page of a site they have 'Limited Access', they will receive an access denied message. However, if the user navigates directly to the child document library of which they have full ownership - the library will display successfully. If you remove the 'Limited Access' permission setting from the parent, all access to children objects will be removed. Does that help?

Hi, "Limited Access" permission is given by SharePoint itself but we can not add or remove this permission setting. Regards.
