Large 2008 R2 NTDS database file

Hello,

I am wondering if this is normal for our size? We have 50,000 users or so in a 2008 R2 native domain. Our NTDS file is around 7GB on 16 DCs.

I am wondering if there is a way to list which objects are taking up the most space in AD? Does this size seem normal for our size company?

Any insight is appreciated!

Check the Directory service event if something is wrong there. Check whether off line defragmentation is required or not.

Events logs are all OK.

How do I check if a offline defrag is in order?

It depends how many attributes are used in your AD for users and computers. Definitely there is a difference between an environment where there are account pictures stored in thumbnailphoto attribute and another environment where only samaccountnames are important.
