KMS server: The count was reset after a couple of years !!!

Hi

I am using a Windows 2008 R2 server to act as our KMS host.  It is handling Windows servers, Windows 7, and Office 2010 activation of hundreds of machines.  It has been like that for 2 years and not a problem since now.

Recently we noticed that some machines can't activate.  further investigation showed that the OS activation count on server is around 18!!!!!!!!.  That makes no sense.  It seems like it had been reset for some unknown reason.

Logs don't show anything unusual and we are dealing with physical and virtual machines.  The CMID (Unique identifier) is different on each machine so that is not the problem

Can some one help me with this?

Hi Kman2k,

On your KMS host, was there a hardware change?

I have seen a similar case that caused by a hardware change. The host became non-genuine because of it. And reactivating the machine solved the issue.

Besides, for Windows 7, the activation threshold is 25. But the count is 18, KMS host would not activate clients when the threshold is not met.

Best Regards,

Leo
