KMS Server issues / DNS record

Hello there,

we deployed a new KMS Server, activated the machine and imported all required KMS keys. All fine and running, clients can be activated successfully.

Within the last 4 weeks we had 2 times the same issue. We found out, that the DNS record has been changed automatically by Hyper-V hosts (different ones). Result was, clients activated themselves not to the original KMS server, but to the Hpyer-V hosts. Even more strange is the fact that we never installed any KMS features / keys on any Hyper-V server.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance, Marcus

Hi

KMS host auto publish the DNS entry, but when you issue the slmgr, please do that;

cscript %windir%\system32\slmgr.vbs /cdns

and (to be really sure)

reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform"/vDisableDnsPublishing /tREG_DWORD /d1

After that, the dns entry will no longer try to register in the DNS.

Thanks

Are you sure?

check on your HyperV servers, which type of product key is installed on those servers, by using slmgr.vbs /dli (you can do that remotely in case your HyperV has no GUI etc)
