KB977384 prereq for SCCM R3
First it installs just fine, the package created automatically when KB977384 pushes just fine. But how do you query for systems that have it installed? Or don't have it installed? Do you have to wait till you install R3 on the site server before you can collect that data?

My VM is powered down right now, but I bet that this hotfix registers itself in add/remove programs. That data is inventoried by default (HINV) and can be used to build collections.

I like Angie's instal method. You don't have to worry about it using SCUP. http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/katzchen63/archive/2010/05/28/scup-deploying-sccm-r3-beta-client-hotfix-kb977384.aspx John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum |

If you've just installed R3, every client will need the patch. The Client Version is also upgraded with the patch, so you could create a collection of systems that do not have the patch. Here are a couple examples from TAP Customers with beta patches (so you need to confirm the proper client version after the patch is applied). Windows 7 and WinXP report it in add/remove as "Software Update for ConfigMgr 2007 SP2 (KB977384)" if you have the SCCM console installed.

Sure and that's true for everything you are going to implement in production. SCUP needs certificates in place in order to work; the product documentation provides detailed information.

Easiest way: - wait for next Hearbeat Discovery Data Collection Cycle (every 7 days by default) - run report Count SMS Client version - if Client version is 4.00.6487.2157 then KB977384 is installed to the client If you want to create a collection, use System Resource --> Client version in your query. Where did you get the RTW R3 (non-eval) install? I just see the eval download. Can't see it on Technet or MSDN.

That's because it's only available for premier customers right now. MSDN/Technet should follow soon.

MSDN nor Technet media should be deployed in production. Those are both for lab use only. You need to get R3 from MVLS. John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum |

Agreed John, Panu solution is the best possible answer, but I have not downloaded or installed R3 yet. I was just doing the legwork on the prereq, so I can't use his method. Torsten, I'm very interested in SCUP, if you'll allow me one question concerning the certificate you mentioned. Did you mean a SSL certificate and switching to Native Mode?

Nope. Native mode is not required when using SCUP. You can also use self-signed certs: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb531095.aspx

Yes, but that has nothing to do with the original question. Please use the Software Updates Management subforum for SCUP related issues.
