Hi, I have give a user the “contribute” right on a single folder within a document library. The user can open the folder as follows :- web browser : http://site/subsite/doclibrary/folder/ or explorer: \\site\subsite\doclibrary\folder They can then open a document from this folder in this example a word 2007 document. The user can check the document out edit it and save their changes by clicking "save". The problem arises if the user clicks "save as". When "save as" is clicked word prompts for a username and password. After a few attempts at entering the username and password or clicking cancel the message appears as follows :- “Access denied. You do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource.” Words "save as" dialouge box is trying to access the path http://site/subsite/doclibrary/folder/ if you manually change the path to \\site\subsite\doclibrary\folder the document can then be saved. Can anyone recreate this behaviour? What is going on? I suspect that word is hitting some webservice that the user doesn't have access to unless they have contribute rights on the whole document library. Thanks Dave

Hi, I understand that when you choose ‘save as’ after editing the word file and it shows an error . The save as action try to save the file to the http:// It is by design .You cannot save a file to an http:// address. After you change the address manually ,it will save the file through UNC access(Universal Naming Convention),namely \\site\subsite . I suggest first ‘checking out’ the file ,and edit it, then use ‘check in’ to save . If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask . With all due respect that is not the answer to this issue! This is some issue with security on the webservices word accesses when the user only has contribute access at folder level.
