Issues with download failing for large files
Hello, I am current having an issue of large file download in SharePoint (WSS 3.0). It only occur for large files (i.e. 300MB). When I click on a file to download I don't get a dialog prompting me to save the file. IE shows 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'. Firefox shows 'Connection interrupted. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again'. In SharePoint log file, I found the error message 'w3wp.exe (0x060C) 0x0EE8 Windows SharePoint Services General 8dzz High Exception Type: System.Web.HttpException Exception Message: The remote host closed the connection. The error code is 0x80072746'. I am new in this field and need this one to be solved asap due to business reason. Can anyone knows how to solve it reply my post with solution? Maybe I need to do something in IIS or some configuration? Thanks in advance. Appreciate it!

I don't know if it is related, but there is a timeout when we upload a large document; this may also be the case when we download large document; read this article, speciallythesection "Configuring Large file support"Serge Luca; blog: www.redwood.be

Thanks for the reply. I did try what the article you posted before actually. And it didn't solve my problem. Also, once i change the chunk size to whatever it is, even only 5MB, some of functions in SharePoint stop working. Also, I can upload the file without problem for large files...only the download has issues for file larger than 300MB. Any idea? Thanks again!

Thanks, Serge. Just want to give some update on this issue and see if there has any more idea..... I did some test for IIS. I wrote a simple ASP file to download the file which is 350MB from the same IIS server. It can be downloaded without problem. In my understand, it means this download issue is not a IIS issue. Am I right? Then i tried to download it on the server from SharePoint which means no network in between...i did the SharePoint download exactly from server browser. It still gave the same error message as original one. I am thinking, could it be some restriction or limitation on SharePoint server or SQL Server? If anyone has idea, please let me know. Thanks!

Hi,As you were downloading the large files, it could be a performance issue, please monitor the system resources both in SharePoint Server and Database Server, especially memory usage. Hope the information can be helpful. -lambertLambert Qin | Microsoft Online Support Engineer How to ask a question in the forum (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375) Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

Thanks for your reply, Lambert. Actually, I did monitor the system resources from task manager on both servers regarding memory usage and CPU performance. Unfortunately, it didn't show up any large usage of the resource...memory usage never reached IGB and I have over 3GB memory on each of those two servers. Any idea? Thanks, Wanxin

...IE shows 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'. Firefox shows 'Connection interrupted. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again'. ... When I am downloading huge files or lots of files, I use SharePoint Designer, which seems to work better than the old drag'n'drop, even better than mapping a network drive to a Document Library or using Explorer view.

Got something which might be of interest for you.It is due to the fact that windows explorer downloading protocolrequires contiguous memory allocation at the server end to get the file dowloaded which sometimes exceeds the memory limit set for the the application pool in the IIS.Migration to 64 bit OS for front end web servers and setting large file chunk size using stsadm can be a resoution. For details on this ,please refer to the post http://www.ngenioussolutions.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=4and http://www.lcbridge.nl/vision/2008/largefiles.htmCheersPlease mark this as answer if it helps you
