Issues while running SSRS Report
Hello, We have recently released twenty reports related to one specific project. These reports are all using shared datasets and USED to execute just fine. Last week we secured the reports so that not every domain user can view them. Upon doing so, the sub reports no longer worked and due to a time constraint, we decided to allow all domain users to have read/execute permissions. Now three of the reports will not execute to completion. When selecting a report to run I set my parameters and wait about 30 seconds. After 30 seconds I'll receive a login prompt for the parent site. I'll then use my active directory username and password which allows the report to continue executing and eventually finish. The login prompt is NOT normal behavior and has never come up until we made our permissions changes. I have attempted to execute the report directly from report builder 3.0 and it will send back a 401 - not authorized error. I have checked each individual shared dataset to make sure all users have read permissions. 17 other reports are sourced from the same database and have zero problems completing. Am I missing something obvious ? The shared datasets allow everyone to read, the three reports in question allow all domain users to read, and other reports within the same folder structure work without issues.Delwayne

Hi Delwayne It is very difficult to help with these types of issues, since they are totally dependent on your environment. Did the method of authentication change when you made the other changes? If so, ensure that all the possible users of the system have the correct permissions on the database. Craig Bryden - Please mark correct answers

Thanks Craig, As far as I know, the method of authenticating did not get changed. The reports are configured to use a proxy account to connect to the database and run the procedures. Do you have any other suggestions?Delwayne

Hi delwayne, According to your description, all seems ok. Please refer to the following article and see if they could help you: 401 Unauthorized access Error in SSRS: http://geekswithblogs.net/ssrs/archive/2009/09/16/401---unauthorized-access-error-in-ssrs.aspx You receive error 401.1 when you browse a Web site that uses Integrated Authentication and is hosted on IIS 5.1 or a later version: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861 If the issue still persists, please take the following KB: Troubleshooting HTTP 401 errors in IIS: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907273 Hope that helps.
