Our library district is preparing to upgrade our Windows XP Pro SP2 computers to Internet Explorer 8. During my testing, I discovered a problem with Windows SteadyState 2.5. While logged into the restricted, locked-down account, IE8 displays about:SecurityRisk in the address line and reports a security warning: "Your current security settings put your computer at risk. Click here to change your security settings..." If I disable the option to Prevent changes to Internet Explorer registry settings , then the warning does not appear. This works well for a test computer on my workbench, but I discovered that SteadyState restrictions for the computers at our libraries appear to be corrupt--I tried deselecting the restriction to no avail. I even tried clearing all restrictions for Internet Explorer, but the problem remains. This puts us in a quandary, as we don't appear to be able to ensure that IE8 will work on 180 computers at our libraries. Rebuilding the public profiles would be an enormous job. Does anyone know of a fix or workaround, either with regards to disabling the warning (maybe through a registry hack) or by fixing the profiles so we can loosen the restrictions? Hi, I want to inform you that some restrictions in Windows SteadyState does not work in IE 8 as IE 8 is a later product than Windows SteadyState 2.5. Since currently there is no plan to continue developping future version of Windows SteadyState, I suggest you continue using IE 7 on those computers. Thank you. Hi Leo, Thank you for the response. We unfortunately are in a quandary, we we will need to upgrade our patron computers to IE8 in order that some popular websites will work. Leaving things as they are, some JavaScript content will not work because of one of the SteadyState restriction on IE registry changes (a prime example is www.greeleyschools.org, where the yellow navigation bar does not appear because of the registry restriction). Hello, Thank you for your answer but discontinuing Steady State is very unsatisfactory for a number of reasons. While I can setup a use account and control many of the same features with group policy (which is unfortunately far more cumbersome if done for a handful of public terminals on a separate network where an AD-based GPO cannot be applied), am I just supposed to emulate the profile deletion feature with logon/logoff scripts? Please advise.

Curious if you found a solution for this. We recently contracted out a .NET web app, and found that some dropdown menus will not work if the computer is running SteadyState. We know the vendor used javascript, but he hasn't been any help trouble shooting the problem. Roy
