Issue installing 2 Hotfixes for SCCM Agent on Client Machines
Hi, if posted it on myitforums as well. I found a list of Hotfixes at http://ccmexec.com/configuration-manager-2007-sp2-hotfix-list/ and installed the recommended one. Many of them made Client Hotfix packages to deploy. I tried to deploy all of them to my Test-Clients. But 2 of the Hotfixes returned at every Client the unspecific error code 1603. I tried to install the Hotfixes with the GUI and got the error code 80070659 (25001). "Setup failed due to unexpected circumstances." The 2 Hotfixes im unable to install are: sccm2007ac-sp2-kb2278119-x86-icp1.msp and sccm2007ac-sp2-kb2309968-x86-icp1.msp The other Hotfixes that worked fine were: sccm2007ac-sp2-kb2261172-x86.msp sccm2007ac-sp2-kb2276865-x86.msp sccm2007ac-sp2-kb2509007-x86-icp1.msp sccm2007ac-sp2-kb2516517-x86-icp1.msp sccm2007ac-sp2-kb2528650-x86-icp1.msp sccm2007ac-sp2-kb977384-x86-icp1.msp sccm2007ac-sp2-kb978754-x86.msp Has anybody any idea whats going wrong? Another thing. I tried to deploy the Hotfixes with the Script here http://ccmexec.com/2011/04/installing-multiple-sccm-client-hotfixes/ : The Hotfixes wich isntalled fine were reported back fine. But the 2 Hotfixes with the error codes wasnt reported back as failed and there wasnt created a .mif. Is there a way to expand the script to report back even failed hotfixes. I think its a cool way to install all the hotfixes anyway. Thank you for your help! Bastian

This is an excellent blog post to find out more details about 1603 error. This will help you to get into root of the issue? Thank you for the link! But unfortunately i didnt find 'return value 3' I just answered the same at the other forum :) I enabled the msi logging before..but im not able to figure out whats the problem from the log. But i think it is likely that there is a higher Version of the patch already installed because i found "[18:21:14] ERROR: Attempting to install downlevel patch for feature _NoFeature. Rejecting patch and aborting install." .[18:21:14] @@ERR:25001 But i wonder because the hotfix kb2309968 is from July and the other hotfixes dont mention that they are a replacement for this hotfix. And if it is the cause..why the hell does the installer not just say "a newer version is already installed" :) Thanks for your help! P.S.: I like your Blog!! :)

You mean that a older hotfix was updated? ? Something like "Article ID: 2509007 - Last Review: June 28, 2011 - Revision: 5.0"? How do i recognize that? With the header line at the hotfix kb If i open all the hotfix i dont see at the 'file information info' that the other hotfixes targeted the same files..mhm Ok, but thanks..the next task for me is to decide what are the most important patches for a stable client and how to integrate the patches at installation of the client. I think i just add the R3 Hotfix withe the /patch statement at setup and deploy the rest with an advertisement.

Hi, I have updated the script on my blog to correctly handle installation errors and report which hotfix failed using the .mif file. As Anoop suggested it seems like on of the hotfixes is superseeded, i tested yesterday and got the same error for kb2278119. I will investigate further. Could you please create a Windows Installer log to check this issue? run the update with a command line that is similar to the following: msiexec.exe /p [path\name of update MSP file]/a [path\name of MSI file] /qb /lv* [path\name of log file] Then, please share the log with us. Hi, i post 2 of my old logs because i find out the right order to run the Hotfixes. I got the same error with the sccm2007ac-sp2-kb977384-x86-icp1.msp too when i try to install the above hotfixes in a random order. My working order for applying all fixes (because i really dont know if there is any part in the hotfixes which are not superseeded i tried to install all of them). I use the /PATCH Option from ccmsetup to give the critical 3 Hotfixes the right order: PATCH="%~dp0i386\hotfix\sccm2007ac-sp2-kb2278119-x86-icp1.msp;%~dp0i386\hotfix\sccm2007ac-sp2-kb2309968-x86-icp1.msp;%~dp0i386\hotfix\sccm2007ac-sp2-kb977384-x86-icp1.msp" and then deploy the remaining 6 Hotfixes in random order with the new script from Jörgen. So far i got none new errors with new clients. Here is the Link to my SkyDrive..i think its shared to everyone..let me know when you finished to download from there https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=cc72d76f7a80def8&resid=CC72D76F7A80DEF8!111 Regards, Bastian
