Is there any limitation on Calculated Columns?
I am having lots of problems for every list with many calculated columns. When I change the formula of a list, it can't refresh the previously entered data and it times out. It rolls back all the changes which was visible to me to the previous entries. If I change through settings.aspx, I get this error: SQL Server Error The SQL Server might not be started. Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services The error is not related to the complexity of the error since I get the same error with a simple formula: =1 . The list has 37 columns excluding the system generated columns. Can this is causing the problem? I have 22 of them as calculated based on other columns. Can this causing the problem? I have tried to simplified the calculation by creating more column. Is there a char limitation on the formula? Any workaround? Environment: SharePoint 2007 Standard on OS 2003 SP1 with SQL2005 in two servers environment. Sara

Did you ever get an answer to your question above? I am starting to experience the same problem that you describe. I cannot find an answer, and I cannot seem to locate Mike Walsh's FAQ.

Calculated 48 Threshold 28 bytes SQL Server row wrapping occurs after each eight columns in a SharePoint list. The default row wrapping value of six allows for a maximum of 48 Calculated columns per SharePoint list (6 * 8 = 48).
