Is there a way to speed up the time it takes for clients to recognize an advertisement.
Hi Some time it takes up to 20 or 30 minutes for clients to realize an advertisement has been issued. Is this normal?.

Yes. You can lower that on the computer client agent settings.John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum/|

Just don't go below 15 minutes. This is called the client policy polling interval. The key point here is that all client activity is client intiated; the server never reaches out to the clients. If you want to force an individual client to check in immediately, simply open the ConfigMgr control panel applet on that client, go to the actions tab and initiate a machine policy refresh and eval. Using Roger Zander's client center (or the right-click tools) you can also initiate this same action remotely.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | Twitter @JasonSandys

Correct. But there is no need to install them on the server. Just any workstation you have the ConfigMgr console installed on. It will come out to something like 2 minutes for the clients to start installing, given that they are online...Miguel Rodriguez

am I looking for the interval setting in the computer client agent settings?. If so I just checked it was set to 1 min. I didn't change it is it set to 1 min by default?

Yes, that's the setting. 1 minute is ridiculously low and will bring you site server to its knees and will adversely affect client policy download and application. 15 minutes is the lowest this should ever be configured even in trivially small environments.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | Twitter @JasonSandys

You can force fast installations no matter how the agent is configured by triggering a machine policy cycle for the target collection of your advertisement. This can be achieved with external tools like Ricks RightclickTools: http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/rhouchins/archive/2008/04/09/sccm-right-click-tools.aspx When you have the tools installed on the machine you use the Configmgr console with you can reduce the time that clients receive your advertisement to ~ 2 mins. So right after the advertisement was created go to the target collection, rightclick and choose client actions/ machine policy cycle.Miguel Rodriguez

so I install the right click tools on the server?, send and advertisement to a collection, then right after I right click the target collection and choose choose client actions/ machine policy cycle? Do I have that correct?, that is all I need to do?

As I said above, 1 min is way too small and this is defintiely interfering with the process also; it just was not designed to work with that short of an interval.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | Twitter @JasonSandys

Jason I changed the client policy polling interval to 60 min. It is set to 1 minute by default. Thank you for the info, I am just about 8 days into SCCM and I am learning as I go with all the problems I have encountered. Thanks for your help as always.
