Is there a way to populate user metadata for IDs coming from a domain with only a one-way trust?
We have a MOSS 2007 SP2 Farm on our Windows domain that has a one-way trust with our customer's domain. We would like to have a two-way trust with our customer but they do not want to open their AD up to us so we are stuck with the one-way trust. When we use the people picker in SharePoint to add IDs from their domain, we have to type in the Domain\ID, because just typing in their last name does not resolve for people in their domain (darn one-way trust!) What is worse, and is causing us issues with our workflows, is that very little of the ID's metadata is available in our SharePoint system. For example, the first and last name comes over, but not their email address, phone number, company, etc. That metadata is available for IDs in our domain, but not for IDs in our customer's domain. We are entertaining thoughts of taking a daily dump of our cusomer's metadata that we have in a data warehouse and running a nightly script to update the metadata of those IDs in the SharePoint SQL server. If anyone has done that before and would like to provide me some details that would be great. Right now we are manually adding the metadata for those IDs that are important for the workflows, but this manual update process is going to kill us, as our customer has tens of thousands of IDs in their AD. Is there a better way to get the metadata for IDs from a Domain from which you only have a one-way trust? And hopefully it is automated? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! -Richard.
