Is there a way to force opening a file (e.g. Word Document) as read-only in SharePoint? The end-users will need permission to upload to this document library.

hi, you can enable "Require Check Out " option which is "Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited?" to Yes in Document Lib settings. So when any user uploads a document to that doc lib he will make it checked out , so others will get only Read only document available on site untill author of that docuement makes it check inRegards, Pratik Vyas | SharePoint Consultant | http://sharepointpratik.blogspot.com/

Hi AskMicrosoft, Thank you for sharing your problem. Perhaps you can do this by managing the permission of the libraries or documents. Could you please check these articles to see if they could meet your requirement: http://sharepointmetadataandclassification.typepad.com/blog/2009/09/limiting-access-to-read-only-in-sharepoint-document-libraries.html; http://community.bamboosolutions.com/blogs/sharepoint_blank/archive/2008/11/04/marking-the-contents-of-a-sharepoint-document-library-as-read-only.aspx. hope this could help you.
