Is there a way to apply Audiences to Best Bets?
We have a web based in-house system with lots of pages that I would like to be returned in our SharePoint portal searches. Keywords/Best Bests would be ideal except that some of the pages I want to return as Best Bets are not availalbe to all users. Is there any way I can put privileges control (security) on the individual Best Bets so only, say, a given audience sees them returned in searches? Thanks for your help. Kirsten Mayer

Hi, Yes, this is possible but first you need to create audience from SSP and then target audience for best bets webpart. Below 2 articles may help you. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263065%28office.12%29.aspx -- > Create audience http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-server-help/target-content-to-specific-audiences-HA010169053.aspx --> Target a webpart to an Audience Best Regards, Ashok Yadala

Hi Ashok, I'll explain my problem in more detail. I have, for example, 3 pages that I want returned in searches: Accounts Accounts Administration Accounts Report I want to add all 3 page links as best bets for the keyword "Accounts" however, while everyone can access the "Accounts" page, only some can access "Accounts Administration" and only some people of a different group can access "Accounts Report". I want only those who can access each page to see the link to each page returned within the Best Bets webpart. Similarly, I also have many other pages that I would like to add as best bets so that different groups of people can see each of those links or none of them as their audience or sharepoint or AD group membership dictates. So I can't just put an audience on the entire Best Bets web part. Regards, KirstenKirsten Mayer

Hi, As far as i know, Security trim wont work on best best ( where as normal search does the security trimming ). all the users can see these 3 links within best bets but they get access denied when they click on the links to which they dont have access to. Target audience on individual items within best bets web part is not possible. I'm not sure if your requirement can be achieved through some custom code. Please let me know if i misunderstood your problem. Best Regards, Ashok Yadala

No, He understands the problem but has not provided a solution. He only suggests that I'd have to look at custom code and doesn't know if that would work. Cheers, KirstenKirsten Mayer
