Is there a definitive guide to error codes?
I've been working with SCCM OSD for some time now and I have yet to find a definitive guide to the error codes that are produced. I have seen the ‘Custom Error Codes for Configuration Manager 2007’ post here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb632794.aspx and it has been useful, although some what limited and as such I am often presented with error codes that are not present here. In a recent forum someone suggested that the error codes can be broken down into their component parts, e.g. 0x80040001 = 800 mans A, 400 means B, and 01 means C but I have not found anything to properly explain this. Does anyone known of a definitive (ideally Microsoft) article that fully explains the error codes using in SCCM OSD?Dave

That error is "Could not get the client GUID". Most SCCM error codes can be found here or from within sccm console simply hit F1 and search for error.. The first hit will give you the same info Michaelhttp://kongkuba1.spaces.live.com

There is no such thing as a defintive list because it's ultimately up to the program returning the error code. There are standards, but sometimes its an art. I did a blog post on this a while back: http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys/archive/2008/08/26/error-codes.aspx. Also note, not to be critical, but your example above is incorrect.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys
