Is it possible to password protect specific sharepoint documents or whole folders outside the Windows domain?
Hi All,We run a stand alone shareopint server in the office here.I need to know if it is possible to password protect specific documents or specific folders within a sharepoint document library. These passwords and and account names need to be seperate from the Windows domain login. Please advise if it is possible, and how to do it.Regards,Callum.

Don't think this is possible. By design.SharePoint Architect

It depends what you mean by "password protect".You can restrict access toboth folders and individual documents to certain users (or SP Groups or AD Groups) using the UI.If you don't want to use normal AD names/passwords for this you *could* create users *on the server* and then give those server users access rights.WSS FAQ sites: http://wssv2faq.mindsharp.com and http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com Total list of WSS 3.0 / MOSS 2007 Books (including foreign language) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com/Lists/v3%20WSS%20FAQ/V%20Books.aspx

The only way to set-up true password protection on a per file basis in Sharepoint is to set up the password *before* uploading the file to Sharepoint. Upon checkout/edit the file will prompt for the password.
