Is it possible to monitor only one link at a time, in redundant systems?
Hi, Is it possible that, with SCOM 2007 R2, only one of the two links is monitored, when using fault tolerance on the links? We have two switches. Active link is configured to failover to the passive link if this one goes down. I've got the two switches being monitored, SCOM monitoring the respective VLAN. In the active Switch the Vlan is active, and in the passive switch, the vlan and switch port in marked critical, due to the fact that the link is not in use... I wouldn't want to override(disable) the monitoring for the passive switch, but neither would want to have the critical status showing in my monitoring dashboard. Any help here is much appreciated. Thanks, Nuno Silva

Hi Nuno, In order to solve your question. You can create a group with the two specific switches you are monitoring and then override the availability health monitor to reflect the algorithm rollup to the "best state of any member" to reflect the most healthy state of any of the child monitors, in your scenario the device availability and your vlan and switch ports. Also dont forget to save this override to a custom management pack as a best practice. Will give you also a link below to further help in how aggregate monitors work and health policy : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb309665.aspx Hope this helps you. Best regards, Paulo J.
