Is it possible to hide a SharePoint Group?
We are developing a workflow that creates SharePoint Groups dynamically and assigns Workflow tasks to these groups. Once the task is completed the group will be removed (This is a requirement). The dynamically created groups names are GUID strings. Is there a way to hide the groups so that site users do not see strange looking groups under the security settings? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, I think, you dont want to display the user groups to user. Then you can try with permission. Remove the right from permission level. Got o advanced Permissions--->Site Permissions--->Settings--->Permission Level--->Click on your permission, which you give to user. Uncheck the below permissions 1. Manage Permissions - Create and change permission levels on the Web site and assign permissions to users and groups. 2. Create Groups - Create a group of users that can be used anywhere within the site collection. Hope this will help Cheers, Hemendra-MCTS "Yesterday is just a memory,Tomorrow we may never see"

Thanks for your suggestion. The problem here is that all the usual groups should be displayed to the users but the groups created by the workflow must be hidden.

Hi, I don't know, whether it is possible or not. If user has right of viewing the group, he / she will also be able to view custom group.Cheers, Hemendra-MCTS "Yesterday is just a memory,Tomorrow we may never see"

Hiding a group name from a person who got the permission to view/edit groups is not possible within SharePoint. If you share with us the rationale behind the creation of groups every time in your workflow, we can try to solve that issue.Aravind http://aravindrises.blogspot.com

We have a workflow where a task is assigned to a person with a certain designation. IF THERE ARE more than 1 persons with the same designation, then the workflow task must be assigned to all of them. The person approving first triggers the task completion. For each designation, we create a dynamic group, assign the task to the group and once the task is completed, delete the group. This group must be hidden from public view.

I don't think creating a group dynamically, for the sake of task assigning in a workflow and then removing the group is a better solution. SharePoint groups are ideally used to implement security for the content. The specified requirement can be achieved in a Sequential workflow's Parallel activity Aravind http://aravindrises.blogspot.com
