Is it possible to have more than one SharePoint_Config database for a single sharepoint farm?
Hi All,I was checking the database for the SharePoint 2007 and it seems we have more than one Sharepoint_config database present for one farm.Is there a way to identify if a given sharepoint_config database is associated to a sharepoint farm? I have tried googling about the different tables/columns in the SharePoint_Config database to find if I can find any information based on which I can associate a Sharepoint farm to a config database but with no luck :(. There is some information in columns of the SharePoint_Config database, dbo.SiteMap table, ApplicationId, DatabaseId etc but could not find any information on these tables/columns or what the data means.I am a newbie in sharepoint administration. Please help. Thanks in advance.Aparna

Hi Paul,Thank you so much for the information.I was able to find the current configuration database used by my farm. I have two more configuration databases in my database and they are eating up around 100+ GB of space for logs.Is there any information in the sharepoint_config database to associate it to another sharepoint farm? Because, as of now we have these sharepoint_config databases but we have not created any farm knowingly. So before removing them permanently from the farm I would like to make sure that I am doing the right thing. (I am currently working on the production server. )And if you can please advice / give pointers to any link/document which explains the configuration database tables in details I would be grateful to you.Again, thank you for your prompt reply.Regards,Aparna

Hi Aparna, It is not supported to work directly with SharePoint configuration database. Therefore, there isn’t an official reference for details of MOSS 2007 configuration database tables.Would you please share with me why you need that information? Sorry for the inconvenience. Best Regards. Lily Wu
