Is it possible to edit a Document Library Template, and apply that change to existing Document Libraries?
I am relatively new to Sharepoint, and the server is MOSS 2007 Standard edition. I saved an exisiting Document Library as a template, created a site content type and that is great. However the Document Controller person has requested that we add another column to the libraries, and it has to be applied to all of the Document Libraries. First I do not know how to edit the template. Second and most importantly is how do I apply that change to the Doc Libraries?

I dont know another way to explain this, sorry. I think that list the detailed steps may help others to understand. My understanding and my questions are: 1. Suppose you have document library named DocLib1. You saved it as a template in Document Library Settings ->Save document library. (And most probably, you are not using a publishing site). Suppose the template name you saved is DocLibTemplate1; 2. You then created a site content type. How did you do that? Suppose you had done this in Site Actions->Site Settings->Site Content Type, creating a new site content type inherent the Out-of-the-box Document content type. Suppose the content type name is DocContentType1. 3. You then create a new document library (suppose named Doclib2) based on DocLibTemplate1. 4. You created 2 new columns in DocLib1, and want the 2 new columns automatically added to DocLib2? No, it is not possible. 5. Why do you mention the creation of site content type DocContentType1? 6. If you add the site content type DocContentType1 into DocLib1 and DocLib2, and then add 2 columns to the site content type DocContentType1, these two columns will be added to list content type DocContentType1 in both DocLib1 and DocLib2. Note that the 2 columns will not be visible in the document library column header by default. If you want then to be visible, you need to modify the default view of the document library to display these 2 columns.
