Intune prompts for Updates on client end

Hi Forum

I have a small issue I need advice solving.

Intune forces Users to restart their Desktops once an update has been applied, I have changed the settings to stop this occurring but it seems that it does not make a difference. Am I missing something here?

I basically want Users to be able to postpone the install of the update and then when their machine is restarted/shutdown by them, it installs.

Currently the option to postpone is greyed out.

Is that possible?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Are these mandatory/deadlined updates?  If so, and they've passed the deadline they will not have an option to postpone.  Remove the deadline and they should be able to ignore the reboot.

I'm not sure if the user can update via the shutdown/restart menu for Windows Intune updates, I'll have to check on that for you.

Let me know if that doesn't work.

Thanks.

Hi Jon

Thanks for replying, the idea is, we have Users that present meetings and seminars and the issue is... they dislike Intune forcing them to restart and disrupting the meeting.

Now although they dislike the updates occurring, they are mandatory on certain devices.

I need a way to allow a user to postpone the updates until they next restart or shutdown their machine, I do not want them to be able to postpone for good, they will need to be installed at the soonest time thereafter.

.

So far, I have had not much luck in finding the correct configuration to do so.

Can you suggest anything?

Thanks

Perhaps you can change the delay before reboot to a more acceptable time. This will give users ample time to reboot themselves. However, the bottom line is, you are either enforcing updates - or yo

Hi Gerry

Yes, that seems to be the case. It is not really ideal, we need them to be pushed, but we don't want them to affect the Users.

Would be great if there was an option for the updates to download and wait for a shutdown/restart to install them.

I have had this deployed to a few clients and all have the same problem.

.

It seems as though Microsoft push updates around Tues/Weds and the following morning they sometimes need to restart near on 3-5 times.

I understand the process, but it needs to be more controlled.

.

I have submitted feedback as I guess that is all I can do for now?

Thanks

It doesn't matter when MS release the updates. Why don't you approve them on a Friday afternoon/evening (that's what I do)? Then the user has the weekend to get the reboots out o

Its a nice idea, but not all devices are portable and kept on over a weekend, or even night. Machines that are not being used are generally shutdown as a policy as it is a waste of energy and money.

So come the morning when they turn them on (Monday in your case) they get the weeks worth of updates. That will likely result in numerous restarts.

We try to let the machines update every day near the end of the day to allow time to download and install before they come in, unfortunately, big updates mean multiple restarts.

I do not see the above as a workaround, if anything I believe letting it update every night to be better, as it is less of a load.

Thanks
