Integrating SSRS 2008 R2 32 bit with SharePoint 2010
Hi, Is it possible to integrate my Sharepoint 2010 server (obviously 64 bit) with my SQL 2008 R2 server (32 bit) where SSRS is installed. I understand I need to install SharePoint as a WFE to my Report Servcies server but it's only 32 bit. Is there a way to install this or is it not possible? If not possible what other options would I have? Could I install SSRS onto a new 64 bit server and point that to the Database Engine server which is 32 bit then install the WFE so SharePoint Reporting Services Integration would work? Upgrading my current 32 bit SQL server to 64 bit isn't really an option at this stage. Any help would be very much appreciated. Kind Regards Neil

Hi Neil. The first method will not work as you cant install SharePoint 2010 with x86 SQL Components and I can honestly say I havent tried your second approach. But I have to ask whynot use the same SQL database engine used with your SharePoint 2010 environment since a pre-requisite is to use a 64-bit edition of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 or a 64-bit edition of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) and CU2.\ or CU5 or greater. Also, SSRS can only use a Db engine one revision older than itself. in other words SSRS2008R2 would only be able to be used with an SQL2008R2 Db engine or a SQL2008 Db engine. Tell ya what though i will have an answer for you tomorrow night this time. I happen to keep an x86 SharePoint 2007 VM though there are very few clients that arte using x86 you njever know when you may need it. -Ivan Ivan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.
