Installing software across a T1 or other slow link
Hi, Before SCE2007 I used AD to install software on my computers. With AD install, I could specify a DFS location for the installation files, and used DFSR to ensure that my install source was current on file servers on both sides of a 1.5Mbps link between campii at our school. This way I never actually performed an installation by copying files across the link. I also could use DFSR to have some failure protection, as any one file server could be unavailable and installs would continue to work. With SCE2007 the install files are copied to the SCE server and that's pretty much it. I don't see how to use DFSR to copy the files to another location, or to specify that location in SCE. Any thoughts? -jonathan

Hi Jonathan,During the creation of the software package, SCE will put the package to \\updateservicepackages folder, then the client can download the file from this shared folder. If you put these files to DFSR, the client will not find the package.--------------------Regards,Eric Zhang

SCE has WAY too many limitations to be seriously considered in a medium-sized business. You can't even change the updateservicepackages path. It will be on C: of the SCE server no matter what you do. Who's idea was this????? Obviously, the SCE development team needs to have some sysadmins to talk to. NO sysadmin would install huge amounts of package files to C: EVER. Unbelievable it wasn't fixed in SP1.
