Installing client
I'm playing with a new installation of SCCM 2007. I've never touched it, or SMS, so please bear with any newb questions I may ask in the near future. I went into Site Management, Discovery Methods, chose AD System Discovery, and pointed it to a testing OU that I have setup, with a handful of machines. This went fine, and the systems have shown up under Collections. Now, if I right-click one of the machines, and choose Install Client, then go through the "wizard", leaving the choices at their default setting, I don't see anything happen. Is there a way to monitor the progress, does the installation not happen immediately? I don't know what to do next, to see if the client was installed, and what client exactly is being installed, anyway? Client machine is Windows 7 x64, if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance for any help, Joe

Hi Joe, The process your are starting is called a client push installation. That features requires that you have defined boundaries and a client push installation account. Using the client push method - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb632380.aspx Configure the client push account - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680908.aspx Client deployment overview - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb633063.aspx You can monitor the client installation attemp on the site server by reading the ccm.log file in the site servers log folder. To monitor log files I suggest you use trace32.exe which is found in the Configuration Manager Toolkit - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5A47B972-95D2-46B1-AB14-5D0CBCE54EB8&displaylang=enKent Agerlund | http://scug.dk/members/Agerlund/default.aspx | The Danish community for System Center products

HeatonJL If you will be have problems with installation you could see client.msi.log on the client's PC (%windir%\system32\ccmsetup)

Hi, As you need to deploy clients to Windows 7, make sure you have SCCM SP2 installed which fully support Windows 7: Download details: Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 Update http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3318741a-c038-4ab1-852a-e9c13f8a8140&displaylang=en Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
