Installing SQL 2005 Components with SQL 2008 R2 Installed
I have an installation of SQL Server 2008 R2 on my local system. However, I really need to create a report for SQL Server Reporting Services 2005. When I go to install the SQL Server 2005 components, it fails to install saying that it's due to versioning
rules. I desperately need to create this report and need some way to get the ability to build SSRS 2005 reports on my SQL 2008 R2 system.
Any thoughs?Nathon Dalton

I think you'll need to install it on another machine.

Hi Nathon,
You have to install SQL Server 2005 database engine to host the Reporting Services 2005 on this machine. It is because SSRS 2005 report server database can't be hosted on SQL Server 2008 R2.
thanks,
Jerry

Well, I figured that was the answer but I was hoping that there was some trick to being able to change something in the report to get it to work with SSRS 2005. Fortunately I was able to find SQL 2005 installed on one of my servers so I created the report
on it. Thank you both for all your help!Nathon Dalton
