Installing SCCM Client With Group Policy fails
Hello All,
I am trying to deploy the SCCM client using GPO. I get as far as the ccm bootstrap installs on the XP sp3 client then fails with the following error. I have SCCM 2007 SP2 r2 running in Native Mode. AD is extended.

I can deploy clients by right clicking and selecting install client. But I cant pin down if its a MP issue or what. Do I need different command line options somewhere?
August 4th, 2010 8:43pm
From what I can tell your command lines are ok, but if deploying your clients from the server works then you may want to go with that method. Is there any particular reason you wanted to use the GPO to deploy?

We have laptop users and systems that are only on the network for a short ammount of time. I wanted to get them installed when they come in-house and not worry about the schedule SCCM uses to push out the client, which I believe is a retry every
hour.

Hi,
Could you please post the commands you used to install SCCM client?
I'v seen a similar issue which using the server name of the MP, not the FQDN, for example:
\\DC.contoso.com\NETLOGON\sccm\ccmsetup.exe /mp:Server1 /native SMSSITECODE=ABC
CCMHOSTNAME=Client.Contoso.com
Please replace /mp:Server1 with the FQND of the MP, then try again. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

Hi Eric,
the following is what we are using for the GPO setting "CCM20007 Client deployment options."
/native:FALLBACK SMSSITECODE=MTV CCMHOSTNAME="MV-RIS.domain.COM" FSP="MV-RIS.domain.COM"
August 11th, 2010 5:52pm
For all you having this problem.... Our solution was.
Group Policy Computer Configuration >Policies > Software Settings >Software Installation ... Add the ccmsetup.msi from the bin directory of the CD.. not CCMsetup.exe from the client setup directory of the MP server.
In the group policy template (Configure Configuration Manager 2007 Client Deployment Settings) > CCM setup...
Old Setting that did NOT work....
/native:FALLBACK SMSSITECODE=MTV CCMHOSTNAME="MV-RIS.domain.COM" FSP="MV-RIS.domain.COM"
New setting that did work..
/mp:mv-ris.domain.com /logon /native SMSSITECODE=MTV CCMHOSTNAME="MV-RIS.domain.COM" FSP="MV-RIS.domain.COM"
