Installing SCCM 2007
I want to install SCCM 2007 in a development environment. Based on the documentation that I've read so far the base release of SCCM 2007 is the x86 version only. My development environment is Windows 2008 R2 using SQL Server 2008 sp1. If can I installed the x86 release on a system that has Windows 2008 R2 x64 and SQL Server 2008 sp1? I really want to run SCCM 2007 in an native/x64 mode. Will upgrading from the base release of x86 SCCM 2007 to sp1 and then sp2 result in having SCCM 2007 in an x64 mode? Or, can I just insstall SCCM 2007 sp2 to get into x64 on my Windows 2008 R2 x64 system? Thanks

ConfigMgr 2007 (RTM, SP1 and SP2) is a 32-bit only application regardless of what processor version the OS is but it runs fine on either a 32-bit or 64-bit OS although it is technically possible for a small performance hit when a 32-bit app runs on a 64-bit OS, it is generally not a big deal. Also note the Server 2008 R2 is 64-bit only so you don't have much of a choice with the latest version of Windows.SQL Server on the other hand can greatly benefit from a 64-bit OS (if you install the 64-bit version of SQL Server of course). More impactful for both products is disk I/O. If performance is truly an issue, then dedicating enough physical spindles will benefit you the most. How many systems will this instance of ConfigMgr be supporting? You said "development" environment, do you mean test ConfigMgr environment or is the environment truly for software development?Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

I would use the Integrated SP2 Media as you need to have SP2 to run it on Windows 2008 R2. But as Jason said it will still run in x86 mode wow.

Hi, There is no 64-bit version for SCCM, like Jason said, SCCM is a 32-bit only application, but it can be running on 64-bit system well. For installing on Windows Server 2008 R2, you need to have slipstreamed SCCM SP2 media.
