Hi there. Well, this will not work. Sure you can install Virtual PC and install a guest OS with Windows Server 2003/2008 and install MOSS on that. Note that you can't install Windows Server 2008 R2 as a guest, since that is 64bit only and Virtual PC only supports 32bit. But you can still install a 32bit Windows Server 2003 or 32bit Windows Server 2008 for you MOSS. If you want to run Windows Server 2008 R2, you will have to use either a commerical virtualizing product like VmWare Workstation, or the free VirtualBox from Sun/Oracle. If you go that route, I see no reason to install Hyper-V as you suggested, it will not work either since Hyper-V must be installed on a physical box and not in a virtual environent. The next issue is your amount of RAM for the host. 1GB of RAM is way to low for running this kind of setup. You should really max out your memory configuration for the host, aim for at least 4GB. Which leads into the issue that Windows XP (assuming you are running 32bit) only can use some ~3.5GB of that. But still it's better than 1GB. Start with allocating 2GB to your guest os. Hope this helps. Regards, MagnusMy blog: InsomniacGeek.com

The VHD is a good idea but that too won't work in Virtual PC. In other words to be able to use it, the OP needs to first install a suitable Virtual Machine system (Ivan's first message) and then install the VHD in that. The vhd means that the OS and the (Trial) MOSS 2007 don't need to be installed manually but doesn't unfortunately mean the requirements for a suitable VM system for them are no longer valid.2010 Books: SPF 2010; SPS 2010; SPD 2010; InfoPath 2010; Workflow etc. 2007 Books: WSS 3.0; MOSS 2007; SPD 2007; InfoPath 2007; PerformancePoint; SSRS; Workflow Both lists also include books in French; German; Spanish with even more languages in the 2007 list.

MIkes right I didnt mention The VHD contained in the archive is for Virtual PC/Virtual Server so you dont have to install a VM to run Hyper-v then add the VHDs to Hyper-v my apologies... I was excited about finding an alternative you should probably get, scramble find more memory though.. -IvanIvan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.
