Installation of hotfix 957691 brings SharePoint 2007 portal down
1. SharePoint portal is down throwing security exceptions. This is expected as admin password need an update. 2. Updated SharePoint services passwords. 3. Updated application pools passwords. 4. As the IIS is frozen, restarted the server 5. Admin site and the SharePoint portal up and running but throwing exception 'an exception in encrypting or decrypting credentails'. 6. Googling redirects to the Hotfix resolution of at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957691 7. Installed the hotfix. 8. Admin site is running now, but the SharePoint site is down. 10. Googling yields some resources where it is suggested to run the SharePoint configuration wizard 11. Ran the wizard where the wizard could not run successfully. Now getting below excetpions The schema version (3.1.3.0) of the database WSS_Content_80 on XXXX is not consistent with the expected database schema version (3.1.6.0) on XXXX. Connections to this database from this server have been blocked to avoid data loss. Upgrade the web front end or the content database to ensure that these versions match. Configuration of SharePoint Products and Technologies failed. Configuration must be performed in order for this product to operate properly. To diagnose the problem, review the extended error information located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\LOGS\PSCDiagnostics_11_25_2010_12_45_58_979_876529015.log, fix the problem, and run this configuration wizard again. The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPUpgradeJobDefinition (ID 08e455d4-b949-427c-838d-807c38477dc3) threw an exception. More information is included below. Upgrade completed with errors. Review the upgrade.log file located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\Logs\Upgrade.log. The number of errors and warnings is listed at the end of the upgrade log file. 12. Ran the Configuration wizard again as few suggested as the solution, but the problem is still same. Current situation is SharePoint Admin site is working but the portal is down. Thanks Kris. Managed to get this resolved by upgrading the site collection using below command. stsadm -o upgrade -inplace -url http://www.xxxxx.com -forceupgrade Here is detailed trouble shotting steps for community. 1. Have updated SharePoint search service, timer and other services credentials through Windows Services interface. 2. Restarted services. 3. Updated IIS application pools for all web applications with in SharePoint portal. 4. Updated SharedServices credentials through admin site Credentials for the SSP web services to use for inter-server communication and for running SSP-scoped timer jobs. 5. Upgraded site collection as explained above using command line tool STSADM Portal is up and running.Apriori algorithm [association rule]
