Installation of SP Server 2013 in the Server where SP Foundation 2013 is already installed

Hi,

I would like to if we can go ahead and install the SP Server 2013 where we have SP Foundation 2013 already installed in the Prod.

We are in the process of migrating Content DB from MOSS 2007 to SP 2013 via SP 2010. This is for TFS Sharepoint.

As we have only SP Foundation installed, it failed during our test migration in DEV. Hence, We have provisioned new server and installed SP Server 2013. Similarly, We need SP Server 2013 for the upgrade to be succesfull.

Please suggest me with your thoughts for the following:

1. Can we install SP Server 2013 on top of SP Foundationi 2013?

2. Uninstall SP Foundation 2013 and install SP Server 2013?

3. Best practices and any potential risks/issues associated with this?

Many thanks

Venkat

Hi Venkat- you can't install 2 versions of SP on the same server, so your second plan is the correct one.

You cant install the SharePoint server on top of foundation. You have to uninstall the foundation first then install the SharePoint server. Here are some steps:

  •  Back up the databases.
  • Uninstall the SharePoint foundation
  • clean up the stuff from server(any left over).
  • Install the SharePoint server
  • attach the databases,
  • Verify the sites.
