Installation of MP fails with error
Hello, I am trying to reinstall SCCM 2007 R2 with SQL 2005 on a 2008 R2 server (worked ok before reinstallation) The MP will not now install. I took a look mp.log and found a return value 3 line: MSI (s) (04:98) [09:16:01:625]: Invoking remote custom action. DLL: C:\Windows\Installer\MSI212A.tmp, Entrypoint: CcmRegisterPerfCounters [9:16:01] @@ERR:25001 MSI (s) (04!04) [09:16:01:642]: Product: SMS Management Point -- Error 25001. Setup failed due to unexpected circumstances The error code is 80004005 Error 25001. Setup failed due to unexpected circumstances The error code is 80004005 CustomAction CcmRegisterPerfCounters returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox) MSI (s) (04:F4) [09:16:01:656]: User policy value 'DisableRollback' is 0 MSI (s) (04:F4) [09:16:01:656]: Machine policy value 'DisableRollback' is 0 Action ended 09:16:01: InstallFinalize. Return value 3. I believe that the error code refers to a permissions problem? If I run mp.exe manually then it throws the following error when it gets to "Creating IIS App Pools, CCM Server Framework Pool" Setup failed due to unexpected circumstances error code 800700B7 I guess that this is something to do with IIS permissions but have checked that out but everything seems in order. Could someone tell me what I should be looking for here to fix this?

Just noticed that the CCM Server Framwork Pool already exists in IIS App Pool (I guess left over from the previous installation?) Just wondering if I should remove this manually and try the installation again?

Hi, You can also download SCCM toolkit v2 and run the MPTroubleshouter. Otherwise, remove IIS, reboot the server and reinstall IIS, configure all necessary requirements http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/cc431377.aspx then re-add the MP and watch mpsetup.log Juste note that with 2008 R2 to install wabdav go into Server Manager, in the IIS Role go to Add Role Services and add WebDav Publishing listed under Common HTTP Features.

Make sure to follow exactly http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc431377.aspx, especially when it comes to the IIS configuration (BITS and IIS 6 compatibility).

Re-check MPSetup.log and MPMSI.log , another question : Are you using ConfigMgr with SP2 ?

Thanks for the help so far guys. So reinstalling IIS (carefully checking and double checking the requirements) resulted in the same error. I will scour MPSetup.log and MPMSI.log again for errors. I am using SP2 Just a thought, was there anything specific I was supposed to do when uninstalling the original site? I just uninstalled sccm from add/remove programs. Just wondering if there was something I didn't do that is causing problems.

Hi, Are you trying to install ConfigMgr from a RDP session or from a network share ?? If so, run the installation locally.

So I found the solution to this issue. Rather embarressingly it was just to *reboot* the server after uninstalling the MP and reinstalling it. Thanks for your time though guys.
