Installation error: Reporting Services Catalog Database File Existance
Hi! When I installed MSSQL 2010 Reporting services (together with the server itself) I received the error above. I read on net that I must delete the files being exist and there will be all right. My problem is there is no any file to delete! Even the subdirectory does not exist. I searced for the file on whole C: but there is no file like this. What to do?Gabriel

Have you looked at http://www.sqlcoffee.com/Troubleshooting028.htm ? If you can't find the files... does the following article apply to you? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956095

Thank you, but I have seen both of them. I did not find anything on the net about the case when there are no files to delete.Gabriel

Hi IamConcerned, I am not sure which folder you have checked, but I would like to mention again that issue might be caused by that the previous installation of SQL Server Reporting Service (SSRS) has not been removed completely. Please locate to this folder "<DISK>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA", then remove the original files: 1. ReportServer.mdf 2. ReportServer_log.LDF 3. ReportServerTempDB.mdf 4. ReportServerTempDB_log.LDF Moreover, if the files do not exist or the problem still occurs. I think you can run Process Monitor tool which can be downloaded from following link for further troubleshooting, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645 This tool will log all file/registry/network access requests during the installation, so that we can find some related information about "this file already existed issue" from the log entries. If you have any question, please ask. Thanks, Eileen

Hi! Thank you for help, finaly I give up to install the reporting service (I did not need it momentarily). The directory you mentioned did not exist when the error message appeared, so I could not understand where I had to delete the files. Thanks, GaborGabriel

Hi IamConcerned, The possible cause of the issue could be vary, but we can narrow down the problem by collecting the process monitor log from File system. It could give us direct information on what error the installation wizard is received from File System. Beside that, I think you can try to display all System files and Hidden files in all folders to verify the existance of the database file. To do this, a. Open an Explorer window, and open Folder option. b. Swtich to View tab, and make sure the option "Hide protected operating system files" is unchecked. c. Meanwhile, please also verify the "Show hidden files, folders, and drivers" option is selected instead. d. Click Ok to apply the settings. After that, please check the folder again. If any question, please feel free to ask. Thanks, Eileen
