Installation SCOM R2 CU3
Hello, Following http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2010/10/04/opsmgr-2007-r2-cu3-rollup-hotfix-ships-and-my-experience-installing-it.aspx The "Server Update" has been done sucessfully... but I do not see anything in the folders to verify the patch has been applied... AuditingMessages.dll 6.1.7221.0 5/8/2009 8:58 PM EventCommon.dll 6.1.7221.0 5/8/2009 8:27 PM etc... Also in the folder AgentManagementthere is no trace of the KB2251525 for any new agent or hotfix on agent... Where should I look for the potential issue? Thanks, Dom System Center Operations Manager 2007 / System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 / Forefront Client Security / Forefront Identity Manager

Hi Dom, 1. did you start the CU installation from cmd with admin rights? as Kevin Holman noted : "Since my RMS is running Server 2008 – I need to open an elevated command prompt to install any SCOM hotfixes. That is just how it is. So I launch that – and call the MSI I downloaded (SystemCenterOperationsManager2007-R2CU3-KB2251525-X86-X64-IA64-ENU.MSI). This will install the Hotfix Utility to the default location. " if not you can start the CU update again. 2. to verify a succesful installation go to AgentManaged folder in \Program Files\System Center Operations Manager 2007\AgentManagement\x86 (amd64,ia64) and look for an KB2251525####.msp file. 3. in windows explorer go to \Program Files\System Center Operations Manager 2007 and add the "File Version" column. sort the files by "file version" and look for files with version 6.1.7221.49 Kobi

Yes 2. nothing in this folder 3. the version is still 6.1.7221.0 What about the installation of the DBCreateWizard and SetupOM? Shoud they have been done with elevated priviledges as well? Which type of permissions are needed on the SQL Side? Could it be a blocking point? Hi Dom, you should take a look at the MOMXXX.Log at %temp% to see why the installation is not completed. Kobi

Hi, Please also reboot the RMS and try again. If the issue persists, please also provide us the log files for our further research. For your convenience, I have created a workspace for you. You can upload the files via the following link. In the log file, I noticed “Warn: SetRootHealthService: The sql client throws exception Login failed for user ‘xx/xxxx’”. Please try the following: 1. Ensure the account you are using to install this update has enough permissions on both the SCOM server and the SQL server. Meanwhile, please also refer to: The case of the failed SCOM R2 CU2 Update http://www.techlog.org/archive/2010/05/07/the_case_of_the_failed_scom_r2 Please Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information. 2. Increase the timeout of the service start according to the following Knowledge Base article: A service does not start, and events 7000 and 7011 are logged in Windows Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922918 Hope this helps.
