Install SCCM Client in master Windows 7 image - Then deploy
Hi, We are going to deploy Windows 7 to new hardware. We have a warehouse that will take our ghost image of a master Windows 7 o/s and then they will deploy using ghost to all our new pc's. Can I install the SCCM client on the master image?. It seems I can according to this MS article as long as the SMS Agent service is stopped and I don't specifiy a SITE. The site will get picked up when they plug the machine onto the LAN and add it to the domain for the first time. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb694095.aspx Thanks. (and don't ask whyt we don't use SCCM capture and deploy etc etc :-))

So, why don't you use SCCM to handle the image installations....... :-) Had to ask! The article is ok, and you can use the method described. In SMS 2003 we had a tool called ccmdelcert to assist you.Kent Agerlund | My blogs: http://blog.coretech.dk/author/kea/ and http://scug.dk/ | Twitter @Agerlund | Linkedin: /kentagerlund

Kent, What I have no found is that the newly deployed image has been added to the domain and I can see several logs in the syswow64\ccm\logs direcotry: ClientIDManagerStartup ccmexec PolicyAgentProvidor StatusAgent ClientLocation smscliui setuppolicyevaluator However on the client there is no site information and under actions there is only "User Policy Retrieval and Evaluation Cycle" / "MAchine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle". - These were the only ones on the master image actually when I ran in the install from the link above. Boundaries are fine and firewall rules are ok also. I know if I manually go onto the client and click discover it will pick up the details but I don't want to have to do this. What am I missing or what should I check for?
