Install SCCM 2012 on a server and point the SQL database to another server.

Hi Guys,

I would like to install a fresh ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 to my VM called "SCCMSERVER" which is running Windows 2012 R2, and point the SQL database to another VM "SQLSERVER". What is the best practice to do this?

Thanks,

Voev

Keep SQL local if possible at all.
You have to add the computer account of the site server and the account installing ConfigMgr to the local admins and sysadmins in SQL if you want the database to be on a remote SQL box.

I took Torsten's advise and kept SQL local. However in the process of installing a new primary site I got this warning status. Verify site server permissions to publish to Active Directory. I did add the SCCMSERVER to have full right to the System Management container in AD but still getting this message. Is this normal? should I go head and process the install still?  Thanks

That usually means not enough rights have bee delegated out. Just confirm you have followed the steps as detailed in the following blog entry for the System Managment container.
