Install 64bit SSRS on 64bit server 2008
I am pulling my hair out trying to install the 64bit version of SSRS on our 64bit Windows 2008 server. We can install the 32bit without problem however.Fresh install of 2k8 x64, fully patched. Tried the sql 2005 install and the prereq check shows warnings for IIS & ASP.net.(I have verified that this is the 64bit version of sql) "Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled." & "Failed to find the ASP.Net Version Registration with Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS)."I installed IIS and installed the following components: (some were selected by default)Static ContentDefault DocumentDirectory BrowsingHTTP ErrorsHTTP RedirectionASP.netISAPI ExtISAPI FiltersHTTP LoggingRequest MonitorWindows AuthenticationRequest FilteringStatic Content CompressionIIS Mgmt ConsoleIIS 6 metabase compatabilityIIS 6 wmi compatibilityIIS 6 scripting toolsIIS 6 mgmt consoleAfter restarting I tried the install again and this time IIS passed but there is still an ASP.net warning. "64-bit ASP.Net is Registered. Required 32-bit ASP.Net to install Microsoft Reporting Services 2005(32-bit)."If I ignore the warning I can install SQL, but cannot install reporting services. If I run the "cscript %SYSTEMDRIVE%\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs SET W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 1" command then I can install reporting services, but it is a 32bit install, not a 64bit.I found this out when I tried to apply the 64bit service pack for SQL and it wouldn't patch Reporting Services. If anyone has any ideas on this I would really appreciate them. Does the 64bit version of Reporting Services even work on 64bit Windows 2008?

Hi, On any edition of Windows Server 2008, you can install one of the following editions of SQL Server 2005 that includes Reporting Services: SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition, 32-bit SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition, 32-bit SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, 32-bit SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition, 64-bit SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition, 64-bit SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, 64-bit SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services Service Pack 2 (SP2) More information on how to resolve the problem can be found here: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=798330&SiteID=17 If there are any more questions, please let me know. Hi Meg, Can you please double-check which version of SQL 2005 you are trying to install? This got my attention: "After restarting I tried the install again and this time IIS passed but there is still an ASP.net warning. "64-bit ASP.Net is Registered. Required 32-bit ASP.Net to install Microsoft Reporting Services 2005(32-bit)."" It sure looks like you're installing the 32-bit version of SQL 2005. I've never heard of a case where RS on the SQL 64-bit media is 32-bit. The fact that you are able to install RS after running the adsutil.vbs command to allow 32-bit on Win64 also leads me to think you actually have 32-bit media. Regards. Mike

Hi Mike,Under Programs and Features in the Control Panel it shows SQL 2005 64bit. When I applied SP2 64bit version, it will patch everything except Reporting Services. When I run SP2 32bit version it will only patch Reporting Services.I double checked the installation media and it shows SW_CD_SQL_Srv_Enterprise_Edtn_2005_64bit_X64_English_1_MLF_x11-157796.EXE.Is there anything else that I could be doing wrong that is causing this?Edited to Add:I also ran the select @@version and it displayed the following:Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3068.00 (X64) Feb 26 2008 23:02:54 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.0 (Build 6001: Service Pack 1)

Ok, I think we have this resolved! I just need confirmation of something....When my director downloaded SQL 2005 64bit, there is an option to select the OS that will be used, 32bit or 64bit. I believe that the first time he downloaded the software it was for the 32bit OS. If I am correct, using the 64/32 install cd installed everything 64bit except Reporting Services, which was only a 32bit install on the CD. Could someone verify this?Yesterday he downloaded the software for me again and this time we verified that he selected the 64bit OS option.I compared the 2 CD's and they are different. Installing with the 64/64 CD gave me no problems with Reporting Services and installed without error. YEAH!!!!Now if I am correct all we need to do is uninstall the 32bit Reporting Services on our production server and install the 64bit version and we should be good to go with EVERYTHING for SQL 2005 running at 64bit.Thanks so much for your help Xiao, there was some good information in those links.Mike, you really pointed me in the right direction, thank you.
