Incorrect Function During Setup

Greetings,

I'm attempting to install SP2016TP on a Server 2016 Tech. Preview 3 VM with SQL Server 2014 w/ SP1.  I first received the "unable to configure the IIS web server" message during the prerequisites installation but followed the steps from the Known SP2016TP Issues article to resolve this issue.

Once I completed the Powershell installation and restarted the server I attempted to run the SP2016 setup.  After a few minutes it rolls back the install and gives me an "incorrect functions" message.  The installation log states: "2015/08/27 15:39:10:757::[2904] Error: Failed to install product:  E:\global\Wss\sts.MSI ErrorCode: 1603(0x643)."

I attempted to manually launch this MSI and get "Error 1713. Setup cannot install one of the required products for Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2016 Core".

Anyone experiencing a similar issue and know of a fix?

Thank you,

Jeremy

Hi,

Simply open a command prompt and enter the following:

msiexec /f <install folder>\global\Wss\sts.MSI

Amit,

Thanks for the reply but doesn't the /f flag repair an install package?  I went ahead and ran the command you suggested but receive error "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed".  The sts.msi fails to install when running the SharePoint setup installer.

Thanks

Jeremy

Hi,

How are you running the setup?

It could be missing files as well.

I was receiving the same error message, and I determined that I had a corrupt, or incomplete download, of the .iso file that was downloaded with Chrome. I tried IE, got the complete .iso file, and the install completed successfully. I'm not sure that Chrome had anything to do with it, but I guess my point is that I would point to a corrupt, or incomplete .iso as the issue.

While I didn't have the same problem you did, my first attempt at downloading the ISO didn't work either and it wouldn't mount. Re-downloading also resolved the issue I was having.
