Incoming email settings on Application Template: Help Desk
I've installed the Help Desk application template and created a new site based on it. All looks great except that I can't figure out how to set the site to receive incoming emails which would in turn create a new service request. Hopefully it's there and I'm just not seeing it. TIA for your help.

I am familiar with the lists you mention. Several of the MS templates for WSS use other lists that for whatever reason can't be mail enabled. For example, the help desk template application uses a Service Requests list that can't be mail enabled. However, I want to mail enable it so user's can submit Service Requests via email and have a "ticket" created. Thanks.

Have you found a solution to this yet? I am in the same boat - I have an Issues List in MOSS 2007 that I want to email enable, however that does not appear to be an option. I have confirmed that I can email enable a document library in the same site so the settings are correct, I just do not have an option to enable email for this specific type of list. My only other thought would be to create an announcement or discussion board list, email enable that list, and then create a custom workflow to copy items to the issues list when they are added to the email enabled list. Are there any other workarounds for email enabling lists other than the few that are supported by default? It just seemslogical to me that an Issues List would be a primary type of list to email enable that I don't really understand why it's not an option... Thanks! Chanda

Thanks G, but that doesn't address the issue. The underlying issue is that not ALL lists and libraries can be emailed-enabled, only certain ones. In this case the Issue Tracking list cannot be email-enabled, which to me makes no sense and I can't think of a way to get around that. The same problem is going to crop up for a custom list of any kind. My only thought is to create a list that CAN be email enabled, have the email go there, and then create a workflow in SPD to copy the details to the Issues list that you really want it to go into (however I'm not sure you can easily parse out the different fields...I think the email may come in as one "item").Chanda

I have created somewhat of a workaround. If someone has a better solution please let us know. I created a document library and named it help desk incoming email. This list is email enabled and works correctly. I then used SPD to create a workflow that uses the create item in function to copy the email over to the Help Desk. This all works correctly but there is a glitch in WSS SP1 where incoming emails cannot start a workflow, so the workflow has to be manually started. Anyone have a solution to this issue?

If you are interested in enabling incoming email for any types of list, you can try the solution at http://www.anurasoftware.com. It enables incoming email for Custom list, Issue Tracking list, Task list ... With this solution, you can collaborate on emails in SharePoint list.
